Learning About Chakras

In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” translates to “disk” or “wheel” and refers to light or energy centers in your body. In these areas of the body, energy is concentrated and spinning. This energy often referred to as Prana. Each chakra corresponds to certain nerve bundles which branch-out from the spinal column to our major organs and then to the rest of our body.

To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open and balanced. If they become blocked, overactive, or unbalanced you may experience issues within your physical, mental, or emotional systems related to a particular chakra. Just as your energy might ebb and flow due to different external forces — like, being stressed out or experiencing trauma — chakras can also be affected by things such as lifestyle habits, emotions, and daily experiences.

There are seven main chakras that run along your spine. They start at the base of your spine and extend to the top of your head. That being said, some believe humans may have over 100 different chakras in the body.

Crown Chakra

Transcendence, immanence, belief systems, higher power, divinity, union, vision.
Balanced looks Like- Ability to perceive, analyze, and assimilate information; intelligent, thoughtful awareness; open-minded; able to question; spiritual connection; wisdom and mastery; broad understanding.
Healing Strategies- Reestablish physical, emotional connection (E) or spiritual connection (D) program of learning and study, spiritual discipline, meditation, psychotherapy (examine belief systems, develop inner witness, goal setting)

Image, intuition, imagination, visualization, insight, dreams, vision.
Balanced looks Like- Intuitive, perceptive, imaginative, good memory, able to access and remember dreams, able to think symbolically, able to visualize.
Healing Strategies-  Create visual art, visual stimulation, meditation, psychotherapy (coloring/drawing, working with memory, connecting image with feeling, dream work, hypnosis, guided visualizations).
